Fast action is critical, but second guessing a nuclear launch is EVERYTHING.

Yes, of course (trustworthy, serious) human second-guessing is an very intentional part of the process to launch nuclear weapons.

This exact thing saved humanity from nuclear winter when a russian sub captain questioned his orders to fire nukes at america, and decided not to... His gut was right and the fire signal was accidentally sent or something (I forget whole story) but that one Russian captain saved the world from destruction...
