I know I’ll probably get shit for this, but what does everyone think about some sort of common sense middle ground abortion laws like this:
first trimester abortion is legal
second trimester abortion is legal only for rape/incest
third trimester abortion is illegal
I hate this whole abortion thing but people make mistakes, and I think on a National level this would be broadly accepted. I actually think it makes more sense to be left to the states and think Roe v Wade was the first of a series of ridiculous SCOTUS decisions, but wanted some input on the attitude towards something like the above nationally
Life is LIFE. The way I see it, when there are the what ifs and special cases the lines are blurred. Life begins to lose its value.
Mistakes - when a person makes a mistake their actions have consequences. People should not take an easy way out because of a mistake. People need to accept the outcome of their actions. If a woman is not ready to be a mother they can proceed with adoption.
Rape - This is a terrible crime and I can not fathom the pain that comes with it. I am sure many feel it is torture to have a woman endure 9 months with child after this crime. But the baby is life. You would actually be surprised how high the percentage is of woman going through with the pregnancy and keeping the child. If a woman does not want the child I still believe they should go through with the pregnancy and I am sure there are many programs to help them along they way and they can proceed with adoption.
I think I agree to some extent, but only over the age of majority (18 in USA). At that point you are responsible for your decisions and should practice safe sex or abstain. Younger than that, for example 2 high school kids have sex, idk if it’s immoral to protect their future and allow the abortion. At 14 years old you don’t have a full understanding of consequences and your future. Same reason I don’t think under 18 should get transgender surgery. After 18 it’s your choice but you have to live with the consequences of your decision
The problem i see with this viewpoint is that there are massive consequences, psychologically and spiritually, from ending a pregnancy. If a minor can't be mature enough to keep the baby then they're surely not mature enough to end its life.
Two friends who admit to having one when they were younger both said it was the biggest regret of their lives and are now more traumatized about it than when they had them. They now feel such awful shame and guilt over it.
I object to the govt having any legal say over what a sovereign citizen chooses to do to his/her own body, but once there is another life involved it becomes difficult to justify termination on any grounds.
I think if a woman is raped or cannot provide for a child, she should be matched up with a couple who wish to adopt, who can help her out and pay for any prenatal care.
You're missing the point. It's all about God! If people put God First at Everything, all this crap you say falls away. It's Not about going to church, it's about oneself that's best friends with the Lord. God's not telling you to have sex outside of marriage. He is against that. God isn't telling you to change your sex, cause God doesn't Make Mistakes. Instead of teaching people how to change themselves, we should be teaching people to, Love themselves because God loves them just the way they are.
These cruel perps took Roe V Wade and 40 odd years later, 62 million dead babies with around than ?% actual rape or incest victims-I think of all the truncated time lines where 2nd gen births didn't happen, nearly doubling the actual number removed from life. The horror....the horror... and only God knows the names of the lost... :'(
I'm mostly on board for this.
I truly don't know how I feel about abortion for a "mistake" but I also know that it's not anything approaching a person before 3 months.
I think abortion should be available in cases of rape, incest, and a grievous danger to the mother( depriving children of their mother, a mother of her life, and a spouse of their wife > baby IMO) and I'm not sure I'd ban 3rd trimester at all because that puts an arbitrary limit on life(and sanity) saving measures.
But what you've said is, essentially, what I'd like to see

Idealistic? Sure. But we gotta have a goal.

Close your legs... that’s the solution. People don’t have to have sex.
