To me, the biggest (undeniable) pieces of evidence that this was a show are:

  1. the swearing in was 10 minutes before noon (which makes zero sense constitutionally)
  2. There was no 21 gun salute at the ceremony and over a minute long pregnant pause waiting for it (one of the most awkward things I've ever seen).
  3. The gun salute for Biden was at Arlington cemetery and was very, very different than the normal 21 gun salute for an inauguration.
  4. Donald Trump took the football and let the whole world know it.

Do we know for sure that President Trump left with the nuclear football? If so, is that common for a departing Pres.?

I don't remember exactly why I know that. I remember him boarding AF1 with the suitcase. I think they might have even said it when I watched it live. Certainly if you /DDG "Trump leaves with nuclear football" it brings up the corroboration from every single news outlet in existence.

As for common, as far as I am aware its the first time ever, so no, not common.
