Do you have any idea of how infinitesimally tiny the odds are that human tech, however good it could possibly be with teams of boffins working around the clock for a hundred years straight off Tesla secret blueprints, could still manage to beat a hyperspace-travel-capable hostile force?
It's the ludicrous plot of an L. Ron Hubbard cinematic bomb starring John Travolta.
Depends on the situation. If an entire alien civilization decides they're going to invade our planet with all their might, then we humans will lose.
But when the aliens that come here with bad intentions are part of a smaller group that does not speak for the entire alien civilization that they belong to, the situation is different.
Maybe there's the equivalent of an alien deepstate or corporate type of force, active on our planet.
We need to remind ourselves, that aliens are not necessarily one big group of like-minded individuals. The shenanigans that happens on our planet, might also happen on alien planets.
Also, there might be good aliens that are assisting us in our battle against the bad ones.
In a universe full of barren worlds, the Earth must look very attractive. What would stop them from mowing us down and taking control, overtly? What if the Prime Directive were real? That would mean whoever is here is using stealth and is rogue. It doesn't seem like an unlikely scenario. They would want our resources.

Yes that's also definitely a possibility.
"Depends on the situation. If an entire alien civilization...."
If I had a delicious sandwich, I would go eat it right now.
