One's higher education often serves to show them how little they do know and demonstrates that there's lots more that they don't know than that they do know. It should also give them exceptional research skills. So, perhaps your mom is insecure (about her position of power in the family and/or society) and doesn't want to admit she was wrong and doesn't "know it all", or she's afraid of what she'll find if she looks?
As for your dad, MSM is a powerful drug. It packages their twisted versions of the "news" into tiny little hyped-up packages and ties them with shiny bows for easy distribution to those who are so busy with life, running businesses, etc., that they don't have time to look elsewhere or think about the contents of the packages. (It would be great if he could see OAN or RSBN.) Unfortunately, it also sounds like he's let his wife dictate how he and the rest of the family lives their lives.
Hopefully, you'll get the info you need - just be sure to track each assertion to its original source as proof/substantiation. There are a lot of good lists in this thread, but only a few actually appear to provide the references you'll need. Verify the referenced info given and do your own investigation for others. And, be sure to present your evidence in a cool, logical manner without putting anyone down. (You might try discussing topics using IRAC, which is an acronym that generally stands for: Issue, Rule, Application, and Conclusion. It functions as a methodology for legal analysis. The IRAC format is mostly used in hypothetical questions in law school and bar exams.)
How sad for you and your family.
