I knew about the gold fringe and act of 1871 and all that. But the vid on learning QV made me brain hurt.

The gold fringe thing is still up for grabs. We've seen too many different meanings to be confident in one of them. I can only think of four right now but there are at least double this amount:

Admiralty/maritime law

Martial law

Wartime status

Just decoration
