1980s: Government worker Dr. Fauci downplayed a disease until he and big pharma could profit off of treating it, then then exaggerated its effect on everyone (not just certain groups). Instead of going against the profiteers, puritan zealots victim blamed people who got it; they especially blamed a group of people who love YMCA.
