The philosophy is what I believe really makes it an art form that has lasted the test of time. It has the potential to excourage the reader to really expand how they look at struggles and the factors that contribute to them. It is full of careful observations about the nature of people.
For anyone else who is interested, the 36 Strategems of War is a summary of many strategies viable in the Art of War and is a more practical approach.
The Art of War is very good but may be too "philosophical" for many.
