Yes it means exactly that.
People, including those in Texas Legislature, have been screaming to update and winterize Texas' power grid. [They] never did citing it too costly; i.e. less for their pockets. We've also been screaming about those f**king windmills that are an eyesore, blight on the land, an environmental hazard, and costs to build/install do not equal or exceed their lifetime power output. Again, ignored.
This Winter proved us all right, and [them] wrong. He got fired for being an incompetent POS. Hopefully there's more to come.
P.S. I live in Texas and have been fighting this for around 12 years...
Exactly. The lack of preparation in ERCOT was the key driver here, in terms of both infrastructure winterization as well as the acquisition of enough NatGas capacity. Renewables by themselves weren't the driver, but they were a factor, and there's still a huge over-reliance on them. ERCOT leadership clearly allowed short-term financial strategy to outweigh long-term risk mitigation.
Also note that ERCOT's lack of connectivity to the rest of the US grid was a factor as well. Neighboring ISO's MISO and SPP also had issues, but recovered much more quickly and could have helped share some of ERCOT's load. It's a long-standing political decision by Texas that finally came back to bite them.
PS. I'm an exec at an energy services company.
Saying you're an exec literally means nothing lmao ERCOT was denied more energy output. Also ERCOT can tell private energy companies something and that said private energy company DOESN'T have to follow anything they said. Ercot has no authority to tell companies to winterize their equipment which they sent out multiple warnings days before.
The people working at Ercot have no authority when it comes to the energy policies passed down through the government. Educate yourself more on the finer details before you play the blame game.
If you want to sell your energy on the ERCOT market, then yes, you DO have to listen to ERCOT.
I'm assuming you are one of those people trying to blame the Biden admin for limiting ERCOT's output based on environmental concerns. I have no love for China Joe, but the EO the admin published did NOT constrain ERCOT in relation to this emergency. In fact it did quite the opposite.
Stop shilling for the bad decisions made by those that manage the grid.
They do on certain things yes, but not when it comes to their personal equipment. ERCOT can tell companies all day to winterize their equipment but they don't have to listen and that is a FACT, please prove me wrong. ERCOT doesn't produce the energy in Texas, seems that's what you're thinking lmao.
Of course ERCOT doesn't produce the energy. I'm not an idiot. But they can set regulatory requirements. If you don't meet the requirements you don't get to offer your generation into the market.
Note that I'm not absolving the PUC or Abbott here. Or for that matter, Texas Governors for the past 30 years. Lots of blame to go around.
1st of all the CEO runs the company and doesn't make those decisions about wind turbines. If you think the CEO has enough power to install regulations about green energy in Texas then you're pretty stupid. The CEO is not a politician and doesn't have as much power as you think. You're celebrating someone that got fired who is just doing his job and got blamed for everything. ERCOT REQUESTED FOR MORE ENERGY OUTPUT AND WAS DENIED. Youre blaming a CEO who has way less power then Texas Legislature, that literally doesn't make sense.
Clearly you've no idea how things really work and I'd bet you dont even LIVE in Texas to know WTF is even going on down here.
Refer to the Energy Exec's input to my comment for more info on exactly what I was referring to. Learn something.
That is why the buck stops with Abbot. He is scum. I guess if anything good came of this storm it is that Abbot was forced to lift this fake virus mask order. Too many scandals at once even for him.
