MTHFR. I know it well. I had three strokes at 37 bc of it.
Hit me up if you need any help.
BTW I have never had sperm problems as a result of it - have 2 sons to back that assertion up. :)
Oh that's horrible!!!! In my reading, I've seen that there are different types of this gene mutation and that it can present differently depending on what type you have. My husband does have cholesterol problems and has since his 20's which we always found odd based on how he eats so we are watching that. So far it isn't high enough to warrant medication.
He mostly suffers from neurological symptoms and moodiness along with fertility problems. But it's amazing how the list of things to help curb these symptoms are full of things that he has tried in the past that did work. It's weird. This seems like the missing puzzle piece to explain all these separate things he has had to deal with. Even if it doesn't help with his fertility, I am so thankful for the fact that it is helping with his moods and his brain function. He is so much less stressed just because he can think clearly. He is amazed at how much more productive he is at work.
We have lost pretty much all faith in the medical field after this COVID nonsense and some horrible stories in our own lives and experiences with doctors. So I'm not sure if he will even bother getting officially tested for this. What's the point? My husband tells me all the time I should have been a doctor. I correctly diagnose my friends all the time when doctors seem completely clueless about what's wrong with them.... then weeks later they finally tell them I was right. I just research a lot. I'm a curious person by nature, so I'm always looking stuff up about different conditions.
I take folic acid every day. Basically I have the more severe mutation, my body only uses about 10% of the Folic i take in. I experienced depression and migraines for many years. Only got tested for it bc the doctors couldnt find anything else wrong with me after several days in hospital.
Oddly my bad cholesterol is low but my good is also low.
I tell people I have a genetic condition called MTHFR or "Motherfucker" LOL.
Hahaha That's always what I think when I see the acronym lol
I've heard folate is much better for your body than the synthetic folic acid. May be something worth looking into.
My husband has bad headaches frequently, especially when there are low pressure systems. Although, come to think about it, I don't recall him complaining of a headache in a while. He started the B-vitamin regimen (B complex and B-12 with B-6 on top of that) at the beginning of February. So it's been about a month.
His bad cholesterol is a little high, but his good is very low. Exercise is the best way to boost good cholesterol, but he was constantly feeling blah and down and just really drained, so it was hard for him to want to exercise. I'm hoping he can start now that he's feeling better because his dad had a bad stroke in his 60's, and that does worry me.
I'm shocked that this isn't more widely talked about. It seems very common and has links to ADHD, Autism, depression, anxiety, Parkinsons, Dementia, Alzheimers, Bipolar Disorder, infertility/miscarriages, etc. etc. etc. Sooooo many things seem to be affect by this and the treatment is so simple. Of course drug companies don't want simple fixes. They don't make money from those........
Yes I sometimes buy methylfolate because it is already methylated so body can use it as-is. But I get the folic acid at the grocery store whereas ppl look at me funny even at GNC when I ask for methylfolate lol
Yeah it's widely spread (30% of pop estimated to have) and linked to everything. Blood test is expensive and takes 2 days so thats why they don't often test unless there's a reason.
My migraines are very liveable now and mostly during low pressure systems as well.
