There was a legend about the Jihadists who burnt the library of Alexandra. "If the books endorse the Koran then they are unnecessary and may be burned. If the books contradict the Koran, then they are blasphemous and must be burned."
Yeah, I'm not sure if it's the Alexandria library, another library, or the year. It's one of those.... mythical sayings that could have happened, but we're not sure.
That may have been the same in 1193 when Turkomen jihadists attacked Nalanda University in India- the largest Buddhist university with temples and monasteries and a library. well the murdering perps killed monks and nuns, destroyed temples and monasteries and burned the library, which took 3 months to burn-what was lost was beyond value and the karma reaped resulted in the moslems never being able to unify beyond their tribal bickering. "Greedy, petty and cruel"...
I remember a decade ago when some it was reported that just the country of Spain translated more books into Spanish than the entire Arab world did into Arabic.
