Good points, lots of wisdom and truth in what you said here. There's definitely an effort to keep people in an extended adolescent state, men especially. Keep people docile, ignorant, and distracted and they're easier to control.

The idea of an educated, organized, and motivated population of fighting-aged men that they don't control is terrifying to the tyrants.
