I hate copy and pasting but I'm gonna say it again:
In hindsight, I believe that this whole thing would have been better handled had he left out the whole banning thing.
A sticky on the front page saying "GEORGE NEWS Should not be Trusted" would have accomplished the same thing without using that term that makes everyone uncomfortable "X is hereby banned". And I stuck by him when flat earth and racism was banned.
Everyone here, or almost everyone, has been banned countless times on Reddit, Voat, and sometimes even TD for the most petty things. We've all seen what teenage and 30 year old powermods can do with no accountability and all the power the website gives them to "do the right thing", and his wording kinda gave that vibe to everyone. And shaming everyone because their spidey senses tingled isn't helping to unite the community either, OP.
I spent the past week over at NoNewNormal on Reddit and one mod decided that everyone there needed to get vaccinated and many users posted screenshots of him banning them for not wanting to take the vaccine. His defense was that he wanted to make the subreddit seem less like a conspiracy subreddit. That was the problem, not him being a lefty or a vaccine pusher, him trying to shape the subreddit in his image because he believed he was right and that he couldn't possibly be mistaken. Evspra didnt do anything close to this but I can see how it set off alarm bells in many people.
He is a good mod who just didn't read the crowd before he opened his mouth. Props to him for sticking to what he believes in. Why did he delete his account?
I agree about 90%. I think a ban was definitely out of line, but even a sticky saying "GEORGE NEWS Should Not Be Trusted" while evidence on both sides is still being presented seems to be premature. A sticky saying something like, "Is GEORGE NEWS Trustworthy?" or "Investigating the Legitimacy of GEORGE NEWS" would have been very appropriate, however. Something that causes people to consider that they may or may not be who they claim and points toward evidence from both sides so people can decide for themselves, but not a sticky that presents a final decision from the outset when there really hasn't been THAT much solid evidence presented from either side at this time. Thought-provoking--absolutely. But not irrefutable. That's a very important distinction for a topic this serious. The claims George has made are significant. He has NEVER claimed to be Q (refuted it, in fact), and he has reiterated the "no outside comms" rule himself many times, but there is enough of a "we're someone important" message that their statements need to be looked at very carefully. If they are true, it would be very helpful for us to know that. If they are NOT, then we REALLY need to know that.
Right, I also remember their livestream which was just Battle Hymn of the Republic on loop but at some important timestamp someone was buying superchats that left a sort of puzzle to be made from Q drops. I'm guilty of not looking too much into it but I remember it was something significant. I wonder if that thread has been banned?
The youtube chats are all still there, but yes, a user named youseenothing was sending donations w/messages that definitely looked like they were significant, and there was some back n forth btwn that user and George (George replied directly). I never figured out WHAT was being communicated, but it sure seemed like SOMETHING was going on. There was a theory on this board related to that wondering whether those donations were really being posted by a member of the George team (so, donating to themselves, essentially!) in order to highlight that message and draw our attention to it. No proof of that to my knowledge, but it was an interesting possibility discussed.
They have used different videos in their livestream over time, but the Battle Hymn is always part of it, and they usually use the same compilation at least a couple times. They recently posted B-roll footage of behind-the-scenes moments, interviews, etc from the 2017 inauguration. It was pretty cool if you haven't seen it yet.
Yea I think all in all the ban and drama was way too hasty and probably served our enemies more than by doing it slowly. Kinda similar to "Cucker Carlson" copy paste shills who finally after months of pushing that narrative saw Tucker slip up and dog piled him, Antifa loved that. I'm saying this even if GN and Tucker are bad actors.
