"sit-down with Oprah, which took place at the Sussexes’ home in California."
If you are under house arrest you stay in your house. Oprah's the only person who can do this interview? Get real PLEASE and stop clogging up the works with this. It's a fking battery pack for her microphone she's 200lbs and doesnt want it poking into her back for 3 hours.
They've not going to run a wire all the way down your body to your boot for crying out loud, especially when the battery pack could just go in your pocket instead. Heck those battery packs have been getting smaller all the time as well, some people just do interviews with Airpods even.
Also a ankle monitor doesn't necessarily restrict you to your home, that's just the most common case.
Unless shes using a microphone from the 80's this is just nonsense. All modern mics have a flat square pack, about the size of a deck of cards, but half the thickness. Nor could the cord reach to your ankle, they barely reach your lower back.
And being way overweight, she could hide it literally anywhere.
And being in that big chair with pillows she could have simply sat it next to her. Its not like she was up walking around. Literally nothing about your comment makes sense.

I've worked on enough productions with +size people (and regular sized people)
NEVER have I seen someone mic'd up with the pack put in their shoes/near their feet/ankles.
