They've always been difficult to pin down. For the longest time they seemed libertarian. But they've been steadily drifting left as they've settled down with families and gotten older.
They announced themselves as republicans at an awards show full of liberals a few years ago. I think they were just pushing buttons. They like to be mysterious about their political leanings. There is even a wikipedia (bleeh) page about it...
I'm only judging them on who they go after hard in their show. For 8 years, they barely touched Obummer. Trump's been hit by them multiple times. We'll see what happens with Biden.
From a business perspective, they're geniuses for not ostracizing half their potential audience with real life political proclamations. I get disappointed with the show's lack of far left targets lately. They're at their best when they are equal opportunity offenders. There's a lot of comedy gold underutilized. I expected, at the very least, a passing antifa reference. Also, the promo for this ep had me expecting more Q-Butters (their most sympathetic character), only to see him get less screen time than Bebe. I agree with your points, though.
