Problem is the republic system of government means we turn over our right to vote on this to elected officials. A true democracy would require all citizens to vote on each proposed bill. This type of thing would never fly in a true democracy.
A true democracy would result in mob rule. NYC and LA would dictate the policies for the rest of the country. Originally, only land owners could vote in elections. Land owners were the only ones paying taxes back then. I think we need to return to paying property tax only and those who pay taxes (have skin in the game) get to vote.
I'm fine with that now since I own a home, lol! Wouldn't have been 5 years ago. Although, I could see a world where rich democrats sell off tiny fractions of their land right before each election to essentially buy votes. There should be some way to stop stuff like this legally by citizen action.
Perhaps a benevolent dictator as long as that dictator is me.... or Donald Trump... Seriously though, we need to develop an alternative version of our Republic that makes it nearly impossible for politicians to get rich from their service... term limits, audits during and after service... of them and family... I really don't know what it will take, but we need some serious changes when we get out of the current mess.
Their "right to vote for us" ENDS when they become corrupt and disobey the Constitution. That is the contract/agreement. When employees fuck up, they are subject to accountability. When the employers are clueless about what the real law says, the employees do as they please. They are NOT "elected officials". They are PUBLIC SERVANTS. ALWAYS calling them by their real titles should be very humbling and serve as a continual reminder to them as to just who they are.
