I think USA Today/Gannett must have bought out dozens of newspapers around the country. Here in lower NY, Dutchess County, the Poughkeepsie Journal, which has been in existence since at least the 1800s, became a Gannett newspaper many years ago, and rather than having reporters for all but a few local stories, they just run the USA Today stories. The same is probably true all over the country.

That's why I could tolerate the Las Vegas Review Journal. Sheldon Adelson owned it and didn't reuse the same articles from all over the country. The AZ Republic is one of the Gannett owned papers and between the TV Stations that are owned by them, you can clearly see why our media all sounds the same. "A Danger to OUR Democracy" type bullshit.

It all started with Hearst Publications. That man defined mainstream media, and started taking over local papers in the late 1800's.
