Calling the Wine Industry "Agriculture" is a f-ing lie! It's an "Industry". I don't want to dox myself, but I lived in rural areas outside of Santa Rosa. I was surrounded by farms raising sheep, cattle, goats, horses, apples, etc. I heard a lot about how the winos were ruining Sonoma County. I had one buddy that was in a battle to save his goats because of the crap that the Sonoma County government was pulling. I witnessed the encroachment of vineyards everywhere. I noticed that every wino I met was an uber leftist with way to much money. They were all silly people, living caricatures of themselves. Their children were worse.
None of the conservative transplants escaping SF were there for wine. They couldn't stand the vineyard owners either. Most were shop owners in small towns that were still mostly conservative. As I said, I don't want to dox myself.
We probably know each other. Growing up here was beef, dairy, sheep, turkeys and orchards. Now I’m hearing that a certain small store with great sandwiches and marinated tri-tip, at a certain set of corners in a certain town is up for sale because a certain person has become quite ill. A certain type of foreigner is looking to buy it, or more of those leftist city freaks.
Oh no!
Btw, I lived in a cottage on what was on a cattle ranch, but parts were converted to vineyard. It was right by a sheep ranch, had to drive through the sheep ranch to get to my cottage. I spent a lot of time on the weekends there learning about sheep, helping dock tails etc. When I was a kid, I wanted to get into agriculture. My dad, who was a farm boy, talked me out of it. He said that farmers are getting f-ed from both end, and it's only getting worse. That was in the 70's. I still joined 4-H for a few years. I wanted to raise sheep. One of my pastors, and one of my good friends, raised goats. That's pretty cool also.
I just looked on Giggle Earth, it looks like the Sheep ranch is now infected with vineyard, it's completely gone.
Yea, my home town is gone, gentrified when it wasn’t necessary. I would leave if I wasn’t making a pretty good salary deep behind enemy lines in the east bay. I’ll give it another year. It’s a job where I have to be close to a metropolitan area. The ‘70s in this town were a kick, even up to the early ‘80s. I would love to move to rural area again but my wife isn’t in to the outdoors and she’s not rugged, other than that she’s the best wife I’ve had yet... As for the cattle ranches here, we are down to one left, the family has been here with their ranch for over a hundred years, but no heirs and a lot of extended family members eyeing the 1000 acres for the property value. Sad.
