I get that this can be a hot button issue because it’s the intersection of religion and child abuse. But I’d like to see where people stand.

I too agree that many leaders in the Catholic Church are corrupt. But wouldn't it be safe to say that a good portion of Protestantism has been corrupted as well? Many of the scholars over the past century and a half pushing for a demythologizing reading of the New Testament have been Protestant scholars, pushing ideas such as "it matters not whether Jesus literally rose from the dead"
Most Protestant and Catholic scholars I have engaged with have acknowledged each other as genuine Christians, albeit admitting that there are serious differences. Roman Catholics, conservative Anglicans, Lutherans, even Calvinists all have more in common with each other than they do with Unitarians, Liberal Presbyterians etc.
NOMINAL Christians are as bad, agreed. If you are truly born again and you are striving to walk according to the teaching of Jesus and his Word, then your conscience and the fear of the Lord keeps you from sinning. Errors and deceptions abound, satan has been around for a long time and knows his business. Read "Pagan Christianity" (Viola & Barna).
I think I've heard of that title before. I'll look into it. Do you accept the doctrine of the Trinity? I'm curious as to how far your rejection of Pagan elements in Christianity extends.
