Please don’t get caught up over spelling mistakes or improper grammar I’m just on my phone trying this out..
I’m a Sunday school teacher and have the wonderful opportunity to have a very tightknit community within the church. I’ve been concerned about one young girl (she’s 11 now) in my class for quite a while. She has always been socially awkward and hasn’t had many friends over the years. Two weeks ago she asked me if this four-year-old girl had heard about the show in Inuyasha just because this little child said the word Kiki. I’m sure that she brought it up to me just to make herself look more mature and therefore more desirable as a friend. She is very interested in my friendship which has put me in the position to be able to influence her in positive ways. But having her mention that really made me worried because the show is very violent and sexual. I myself had an issue with it while I was growing up with being attracted to two of the characters. With that said this last week she told another teacher in our class that she had a “special friend” that she met over a gaming website and now communicates with over some other website. She said he’s nine years old... i’m sure that this is a pedophile. What nine-year-old boy knows how to type First off and would be able to create an online friendship with someone across the country and direct them to a different site to communicate (unless she did which I doubt). I’m sure that she sexually curious as she has already been exposed to sexual content as I mentioned above. I spoke to him the show last week to which he informed me he is aware and is hoping to create an environment in the home so that she is not overly sheltered and shocked when she encounters these things elsewhere. I personally don’t think it’s a very good way to go about doing what he intends but that’s his household and his decision. All the same I’m going to inform him of this new information. I just don’t know how to go about this without her getting in trouble (causing a bigger problem in the future) or totally blocking out us adults that are watching out for her..
Note: she also became very defensive when the teacher was asking a little more about her friend before my co teacher was suspicious. It also appeared that she had spoken quite a bit about this person to another girl in the class.. Again I’m sure there are very few 9 year old boys that would cause this kind of reaction from a 11 year old girl
I'm a bit confused by your post.
Are you talking about the anime show, Inuyasha? See pic I've included: Inuyasha
If so, while that show is violent, it is not even at all sexual. It's about a half human, half demon looking for shards all over Feudal Japan so he can combine it into a whole orb so he can become a full-fledged demon to get rid of his human side. Along the way, he meets a priestess named Kikyo (maybe that's the name you heard of, "Kiki"?) and Kikyo tried to "exorcise" Inuyasha but developed a relationship (NOT SEXUAL AT ALL, just a romance love-com story) but got tied up with an evil spirit who succeeds into separating Inuyasha and Kikyo, turning them into each other. Kikyo is also an archer and shoots an arrow through Inuyasha's heart, causing him to be "petrified" for a long time. Kikyo held the orb that would allow Inuyasha to become a full-fledged demon, asked her young sister to cremate Kikyo along with the orb so no other demons, Inuyasha including, to claim it.
Many years later, a girl from present-day Japan fell into a well close to her home and mysteriously warped into Feudal Japan and found Inuyasha. She dislodged the arrow out of Inuyasha, bringing him back to life and Inuyasha thought this new girl named Kagome, was actually Kikyo because his sense of time is thrown out of whack due to him being petrified for a long time. It turns out Kagome is Kikyo reincarnated. Inuyasha and Kagome search all over Feudal Japan to gather all of the shards to prevent other demons from making it whole, with one evil spirit (the same one that separated Inuyasha and Kikyo) in mind because that demon has bigger things than the "mediocre" demons. Along the way, Inyasha and Kagome falls into love and develops a relationship.
To cut the story short, this is basically the plot of the Anime show for Inuyasha. If you get to know Rumiko Takahashi, one of my favorite Manga/Anime creators and the creator of "Inuyasha", she is no where close to perversing anything into Hentai (shows that involves nudity and possibily penetration) or Ecchi (sexual persuasions with mild nudity) but Ranma 1/2 is different (teenager boy fell into a mysterious pond and comes out as a teenager girl and that show does have nudity but very, very mild and nothing sexual). Takashi's works are full of comedy and romance.
I looked "kiki" up online and don't see how the two, Inuyasha and kiki, have in common other than maybe Kikyo? Keep in mind, I'm deaf so the way I imagine the name, Kikyo, being pronounced "sounds" different from "kiki" but you may know better than me. However, kiki by itself does have a perverse meaning to it so maybe that 4 year old girl was either talking nonsensical like "babbling" or trying to pronounce a word she don't know how to, or she actually learned it from her parents or someone older in the household.
Link to "kiki" and its definition
But again, yes the show is violent in terms of blood and gore, but not to the point where people would get queasy and throw up. Just your ordinary run-of-the-mill slashing and slaying. I do agree that it's not appropriate for an 11 yr old kid to watch that show. Because of this discussion, I looked up online for the age rating and it turns out it's "appropriate for 11 yr old and up"... and I'm like... No. Not even. I think it's more like for 14 yr and up. Also I saw on one site, Common Sense Media, it said the show had violence (3 out of 5) and sexual content (3 out of 5). I agree with the violence part, but not the sexual content. Like I said, if you got to know Rumiko Takashi's work, you will agree with me that she doesn't sexualize her shows. "Maison Ikkoku" is one of her best work and it's purely comedy and romance and there were absolutely no sexual content in that series.
About your comment on,
I learned how to type when I was 7 years old and mastered it by 9-10 years old. I have a child around that age that I've been teaching how to type and they're getting good at it but they would have been better if they had the same software I used when I was 7 years old because it really motivated me into typing as it was a typing game. So in the "9 year old boy"'s defense, it could really be a 9 year old boy? A lot of parents are getting into the "STEM" thing, teaching their kids how to code so it's quite possible the 9 year old kid knows how to type from doing codes and such? I am aware that pedophiles often pretend to be kids closer to the prey's age so they can find a common ground.
This is another reason why I don't let my child play games online with others or have a social media account until they are of legal age so they can decide for themselves. The girl's parents should have not allowed the girl to be online for any reason, even if it's for fun and games. If so, then the parent(s) should be present all the time to monitor the situation. Based on your explanation of the girl's reaction when she was asked further on her "special friend", I think it was a predator.
But I am here to provide some background info on the show, "Inuyasha", if that's the same one you're talking about because that is one of my favorite anime shows and it's NOWHERE close to being sexual. (Not shouting, but caps for emphasis throughout the post).
Hope this helps you in any way possible!
