I'm looking for a 10 meter that also does cb [ just in case], and to be used as a base station. Gonna get a simple ground plane. I think i have settled on the president lincoln--any thoughts?
I’ve heard okay things about the President Lincoln. Never been a fan of the cross band capabilities. I have a cobra 29 for the CB chores. For 10 meters I can use my KX3 if needed but I usually go to 20 or 40 meters NVIS for HF stuff. Plus the KX3 can go to 15 watts. ;)
To preppers i would recommend buying radios that you can service yourself if needed. These things do fail. If thats not for you, buy the cheapest you can find that checks your boxes and buy twice as many as you think you will need. General class hamfag
Yeah, but radios these days are more like computers. I discovered that while making the MARS mod to my IC706. Had to get a magnifying headset to see the damn circuit board. I wouldn't DARE try anything to mod my TH-D74. :)
Better to get a bunch of cheap Baofengs and be done with it.
A lot of folks who are getting into radio are intimidated by the wide variety of radios out there. Here’s a great overview. I’ve followed this dude for a while. Recommended (by an Extra Class licensee which I say not to brag, but only to underline that this isn’t my first rodeo.)

Yaesu ft8900r or 857d. I have both and they are fantastic. The 8900r will not transmit AM on 10m though, only rx.

Yes agree. The nice thing about Yaesu rigs is they mostly all have a jumper or 0 ohm you can remove for mars/cap

hmmm...thats about 6 ounces of silver..
In calmer days I bought a TH-D74 manufactured by Kenwood. I guarantee you that the D74 was NOT on this list. :)
