Bin Ladin was "Killed" while I was in Basic Training and we literally knew NOTHING about it until we graduated. People whom had mail that contained the info was kept from them, we couldn't watch TV or read a newspaper. That was an eye opening moment for me, knowing that if they wanted to, they could keep you from knowing ANYTHING they didn't want you to.
Probably a Morale issue. Many people signed up to go cave to cave and hunt that fucker down... If you knew it was over before you even finished training it could be a major demotivater.
Mostly you are too fucking busy to watch TV. Learning too much to give a shit about the world and so tired you gave no fucks either way. The bin laden event wasn't that big a deal even to us in the military at the time. We all thought something was wrong with it and I still do.

I wonder why they did not want you to know that? The general population knew right away. Obama used it as some kind of bragging right.
