Well, it's like Winston Churchill said: "If you go, take one with you". On a more religious note, Hell is not a very pleasant place this time of year from what I hear, and suicide's a one way ticket. And if we have to do this the hard way, we're gonna need all the able bodies we can get.
I was taught about the mortal sin of suicide in Catholic school too, and I have rejected it outright ever since reaching maturity.
Imagine God saying "Heheheh...I've created a species of people and a world they can hardly handle. Some of them will get so fearful, frustrated, depressed, lonely, angry, or just plain insane at the bullshit of it all that they will seek to end their nightmare on earth.
"These, I will show no mercy whatsoever! I WILL CAST THEM INTO THE LAKE OF FIRE TO WALLOW AND SHRIEK IN HORRIBLE WRITHING AGONY FOR ALL OF ETERNITY...for their sin of being unable to withstand the trials and tribulations of modern life!! AH-HAHAHAHAHA!!
::pitch rises three octaves to a shrill, berserk cackle:: "HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA!! SUFFER, you peons!! You thought LIFE was so miserable you couldn't handle it?? Well you pathetic puny little whiners, wait'll you see what DEATH is like!! This'll teach you to want out of misery!!! Misery misery misery for all of eternity, that's what you get!! HAHAHAHHAHA!!!" Etc.
I don't believe in that sort of wickedly vindictive God. I utterly repudiate the Catholic church for methodically and viciously lying to me about his nature and forcing that evil belief into me as an innocent child. May every single one who did this rot in the hell they had prescribed for others.
Amen Fren, god is loving & benevolent.
This may be a step too far for you, but I believe god does not judge us, god always loves us, all of us, even the worst amongst us. Judging and condemning is, I believe, a human trait, another means of control, if you will.
It is my belief that god is always with us, in us, and when we align ourselves with god, we feel joy, peace & love. When we turn away from god, we feel misery and despair.
I believe hell is the misery those who fail to see the god inside them, who fail to live in alignment with all that is good and godly, live and experience here on earth.
Our spirits are here on a journey, and we have free will to see, acknowledge, embrace and know god while we are here and thereby live a life of grace, or we can do the opposite and live, well, in hell.
Evil emanates from those who deny god, here in our lives.
God loves us all, IMHO.
Idk He judged Sodom and Gomorrah pretty hard if you ask me. Not to say that God is just this omnipotent being that goes around smiting all those who anger him; but it's gotta get pretty bad before He comes down to open up a can of whup-ass
