I just wish to write to express my concerns regarding the proposed COVID-19 vaccination certificates being considered in consultation with the effect to them potentially being deemed "necessary" to re-open society.
It is my view this will inevitably create two classes of citizens, and will foster division and resentment to those who choose, for whatever reason (be it personal or medical), to not receive the vaccine. Targeted harassment may then be directed toward those unvaccinated and hate crimes may increase on that basis alone.
Citizens in a free society should always possess the inalienable right to personal bodily autonomy and not have to be beholden to governmental (and medical authority) policy that they cannot do certain things, go certain places or meet certain people unless they agree to receive something into their physical bodies which they do not wish to receive.
The implementation of such a policy or method would inevitably allow some citizens who choose to take the vaccine to enjoy benefits in society (whether that be going to leisure activities, meeting in wider groups etc), before others which is completely unfair and outrageous.
I understand the Government is in a difficult position but I would implore you to understand the consequences of creating two castes in society, especially from a behavioural and psychological point of view as the psychological damage will last for some time to come and mental health will decline sharply if citizens feel they are being held hostage or coerced by a government to just get their lives back through no fault of their own.
Thank you for taking the time to consider my response and the views of others who have responded to this call for consultation.
