Saw 4 fighter jets leave Mac Dill around noon today-in formation peeling off and out but there is no air show scheduled so I'm looking for a reason....
In the area as well. Saw two yesterday. My view's blocked by trees so I usually only hear planes and don't bother to move around the trees to get a better look, but these were right overy eyeline.
Fwiw, a couple things.
I'm not near enough to Mac Dill to get anything but traffic going well west of the base. And I don't know anything about what's normal military traffic.
But I have been noticing a huge uptick in general air traffic (again can't see what the majority are) since, probably, January. A huge uptick (been at this location about 5 years). I asked a friend who is a commercial pilot about it and he said he's personally been busier (flies for a smaller, demand based semi-regional airline) and that TPA (the major airport) might be widening their landing paths, and that's why I'm noticing more traffic. Not really sure, so take it with a grain of salt. But it definitely, not pun intended, been on my radar.
What?

Fighters don't only fly in air shows...
