But for some reason they have to give the impression that they are making an effort to remove the ship first.

I knew some Romanians that were living in France. They snuck into a container with limited food and water. I believe it was 5 of them initially, only three of them made it alive to virigina. They literally were drinking the rainwater on the ground when the container was opened. This was about 20 yrs ago or so.
