Just a thought here. This acquittal could be either literal or metaphorical, obviously. Either way it sounds like a good thing.

In the movie white squall, if we take the captain to be ‘Q’ then the acquittal occurs right at the very end of the movie, at the end of the military tribunals.

This could be a reference to that. But how to then interpret it? Is the movie almost over? Is it a foreshadowing of what’s to come? Is it trying to hint at impending military tribunals? Or maybe Q has literally been acquitted by some court somewhere.
