Growing up I was told “you should love yourself the way you are”.
I fully get the whole “accept people for who they are” thing, and I’ve had my own occasional bullying for not being like “every other boy”, so I get it.
If you’re a boy and like playing dress up with girl clothes or whatever... that’s not for me, but you do you and I will treat you like a human being and, if you’re nice and we have shared interests, I’ll even be your friend.
But at what point did “love yourself for who you are” change into “don’t love yourself for who you are, instead take pills and have surgery to transform yourself into something you are not, and be sure to violently force everyone around you to pretend that you are something that you’re not rather than just accept how you were born”?
I mean, it used to be even cosmetic surgeries and weight loss surgeries were “frowned upon” by the masses because “it won’t make you happy” and you need to “love yourself” first. (I.e. deal with your underlying mental issues first).
Imagine if we applied this to anything else - “I’m a basketball player trapped in a 5’ 3” body”... k, time to amputate your legs and give you robot feet to make you 6’ “5
This is what confuses me.
