There was no sign requesting or requiring a mask and being Sunday the store was packed but yet I was the only person in the store without a mask!

You have to understand. They do possess a common sense. The logic they are using, they all share in common. This is the very definition of common sense. True it may not be the right logic, but it is the logic held by the masses, that they all share in common.
