These people grew up with absentee parents, therefore they lack an understanding of how authority can be correct, even of they disagree with it.

Being powerless as children, their entire theory of knowledge is based on seeking self-authority which lessens the chaos in their confused minds.

I wouldn't go as far as saying "these people are stupid", but they have fractured minds and low self esteem.
