Windows 10 is microsoft's deepstate OS. They can do whatever they want with your computer
iOS is little different
Android is Google's OS tentacle
It is not enough to download files, or links. You must store them on USB drives and only ever interface that USB with a Linux OS. Ideally one that is only used for archiving that you don't modify/dl/install other programs on, but just being linux is huge.
I'm fucking serious.
Those who ignore me will one day insert their USB into their windows machine to add some new videos to it, and the USB will magically be empty. Because their OS was told to wipe it next time it was inserted. And you'll never know what happened or why.
People who simply have it downloaded will find their second hard drive mysteriously dead one day, or the files simply gone.
I haven't used ubuntu in a while, but it really is (was) quite good.
It is different though. Depending on your user complexity you'll 100% encounter some stuff that is way way different from anything you're used to, completely foreign in how you want to do something. But for just basic computer use yeah it's as identical as windows, ios or android is.
I've been using Manjaro currently because it's also what my phone is running. I mention this not because I recommend it, but because it's true. There really isn't a secret 'better' option out there, just different oddball use cases that make others situationally 'better'. Ubuntuu is the well known one for a reason.
Pinephone. I've shilled it here before, but honestly it's not ready for primetime. Unless you only use yours for calls and texting and are ok with it bricking mid update, just wait.
Alternatively there's the librem project, but I'm not a GME-millionaire yet. It does have a 100% components made in america option though. So if and when I can afford it this company is getting my business.
Linux OS is nice, but the other appeal of those two projects are their PHYSICAL SWITCHES to physically disconnect the microphone/camera/modem/wifi/etc.

What distro of Linux do you use? I've heard that Ubuntu is no different than Win10 as far as the DS hooks embedded in it. Thanks.
I've been looking at Linux Mint

How did you get Manjaro on your phone? I have a old pixel4 I can fuck with.

Hard times create strong men.
Don't ask for a lighter load, ask for broader shoulders.
