Does it need to? The people reading the article have read the Bible. I assumed you have.
The tradition of not eating meat and eggs is part of the penance, a way to walk the walk that Jesus did through his 40 days before the Crucifixion and Resurrection.
Is that too much for you? For people to try and pick up the cross and follow Jesus? Is that heresy? Really? Give me a bloody break.
The Catholic church is rooted in tradition and that's Biblically sound, as well.

In fact, it's all Biblically sound. These are like the most basic of arguments. If you just took a comparative theology course, you wouldn't have to look like such a fool in front of everyone.
Yes, it does need to.
You are appealing to tradition instead of to the Bible, making the same mistake the Pharisees made. You are treating tradition as Biblical law. In doing so, you have supplanted God's law and put in place the laws and traditions of men.
By your own citations (none of which are from the Bible) those traditions were established centuries after the passing of Christ and His apostles. As such, they have no Biblical validity.
Let me ask you something? Why isn't the ceremonial washing of the feet from the Last Supper practiced by Christians? Christ specifically said it was a blessed thing to do.
It is much more Biblically valid to wash each other's feet from time to time than it is to make a special occasion of hiding eggs. I'm not saying kids can't have fun with eggs, just that it isn't a Biblically supportable activity.
The entire problem with going for tradition over Biblical law is you end up odd practices that are not Biblically supportable and contain a mishmash of both unsupportable tradition and paganism.
Should we celebrate the birth of Christ? Absolutely. Should there necessarily be a Christmas tree? Only if you want one. A fancy tree didn't figure in the Bible at all. Should we celebrate Christ's crucifixion and resurrection? Absolutely. Should we be calling it Easter (Ishtar, Babylonian fertility goddess)? Probably not. Do the 40 days prior to the crucifixion have any particular significance aside from being part of Christ's ministry on earth? No. He spent that time ministering and teaching people things, including lessons about the wickedness of the Pharisees and their usage of religious law to turn the Sabbath into a burden and give power to themselves to control the Hebrews.
You won't impress me with long winded appeals to tradition. Those same appeals didn't work on Christ. He specifically rebuked the Pharisees for it.
You won't impress me with appeals to Catholic doctrine. The Roman Catholic Church does not impress me. I view the papacy as an abomination seeking to stand between the individual man and Christ, which is contrary to the relationship Christ said we are supposed to have.
They do because of Apostolic authority, which New Age Protestants reject.
Like I said, this is real basic stuff. You can have this argument with all of the apologetics pages set up for people who have no idea what being a Catholic is.
You and Hitler and the KKK and the rest of 'em. I know. It's a story as old as time.
Rejection of Papal Authority is 100% American and 100% Freemasonic.
Rough spot to be in...right on the precipice of truth but so rooted in Freemasonic lies to see the light.

You live in a Freemasonic slave colony and they shape your worldview.
I read the Bible and it shapes my view.
Tell me something. Why does your church forbid its priests to marry?
How can you call a church Holy that rejects the word of the apostles of God?
Furthermore, how can you call a church Holy which sets itself above God by "transferring the sanctity of the Sabbath" to Sunday? To change the law of God is to set oneself above God.

Oh wait, you can't. You're brainwashed by the church to take their word for everything instead of checking it yourself. You completely missed the part of the Bible where Christ said the law will be unchanged until all is fulfilled. You're brainwashed by the church, an organization that gave ITSELF that apostolic authority you cite, into believing God's law is whatever they say it is instead of what He says it is.
Of the 2 Billion Christians, 50% are Catholic and hold a Catholic interpretation of the Bible. That means there are 1 BILLION CHRISTIANS like you who think they understand what the Bible means, yet there are how many sects? 40,000+???
You all might want to get together and figure it out.
The church is the Bride. A priest who has a wife and family does not have time to do the work of the Priest. There is PLENTY to read about on this matter from a Catholic viewpoint. If you're interested, you can look it up. You aren't going to convince me or anyone here. I used to be just like you a few years ago.
Just be logically consistent. Go take all your "gotcha" questions and look up the Catholic view point on that apologetic matter. You will get a clear explanation for all your questions.
Or better yet, take your questions to a Traditional Latin Mass Priest. He will catch you right up.
