Violence isn't inherently evil.

Violence is a tool used by both Good and Evil, one to protect, one to aggress. It is the tool you put at the very bottom of the toolbox. You learn to use it, and wish to never have to.

If you ever happen in the situation you run out of tools, you'll be happy it's there rather than not.
