Nancy would be the de facto VP until the Senate confirms Harris' pick. If something were to happen to Harris before that, Pelosi becomes president. The Pelosi step is unnecessary if all are in agreement that Hillary would be named and confirmed as VP, but then Harris is expendable at that point.

I'm not sure Pelosi wants to be president, so she would be selecting her own VP and then could possibly step down. We could have 3 or 4 "presidents" this year.
