An Australian politician made a comment years before Port Arthur. He said something like 'The only way there will be gun control in Aus is if there is a mass shooting in Tasmania' (paraphrasing...sources for anything Port Arthur are hard to find as it happened before the internet existed).
Also there were rumours that the Prime Minister at the time already had the gun ban legislation ready to go. The entire ban went into effect within weeks of the shooting. There was no way they couldve done all the legal leg-work in that short amount of time.
Thanks for posting this OP.
Reminder that Bill Cooper said they would use mass shootings to ban guns. And he said it in 1991, years before the first one happened.
Dunblane Massacre - March 1996 (1st mass shooting, done by a known pedo. Followed by gun-ban in UK)
Port Arthur Massacre - April 1996 (The 2nd shooting, followed by the gun-ban in Australia)
Wow it only took one for those countries to ban firearms? I never knew that 97' was when UK gave up their right to bear.
They both happened in '96. Only one month apart.
