It has previously been like pulling teeth to get her to come out to the range... she's only been up once and she was pretty good with a Mini-14 for a first timer. As for recoil, the 770 is less dramatic than my M1A1 which I absolutely adore... you KNOW when you've pulled the trigger!
Sorry it took so long to circle back,I'm in Sydney Australia.
See how she goes with the Rem 770,it looks like it's got a good recoil pad on the but.
Practice long range,it is a very useful skill.
That M1AI,That's the semi-auto civilian version of the M14?Not M1 Garand?
Either way they are both cute rifles.
Just be careful about using more powerful than Mil Spec NATO 7.62 in the
semi-auto.(check out Big Game Hunting Blog)This guy gives good advice on
firearms and ammo.
Also is the Mini-14 rated for Mil Spec 5.56 or .223?Again check out that Blog.
It looks like you and your wife are loaded for bear and ready to rock and roll.

That M1A1 sounds really good,I've used an FN FAL(7.62 x51 NATO)in the Australian
Army and I imagine the recoil is very similar, manageable but very noticeable.
If you are using Mil Spec 7.62x51 NATO it should all be fine.If you try some long
range shooting you could do a comparison between the NATO Spec ammo and
some high performance loads in the Rem 770 to see if it effects the zero.
If there is minimal difference you could stay with the NATO ammo in both,
Rem770 and the M1A1 and God forbid, if this situation goes tits up, the US
Military has lots of 7.62x51 NATO ammo for their M60s,M240s,M134mini guns.
Same goes with the Mini 14,the US Military has more 5.56x45 NATO than you
can poke a stick at.
You could try to work the wife up to 300 yards at least with the Mini 14 and see
how she goes.
It all sounds good, you and the wife are tooled up well! Enjoy!
As an after thought you could ask a gun dealer ect, if the MIAI can use the same
magazines as an FN FAL, and if so you could try to get some 30 round FN FAL
mags.
I don't know if they are legal or available in America, but they give you good high
capacity when you need it.
The 30 round mags are for the heavy barrelled FN FAL(L2A2)but alot of people,
like the SAS,used them on the standard light barrelled FN FAL(L1A1)
This has been some serious gun fagging......

Love your Remington, very nice. 7.62x51 is good,if this all goes tits up you can resupply ammo off the Military.
How do you think the wife will handle the recoil?
7.62x51 is usually not that bad, with the added bonus of good long range shooting.
Enjoy fren!

Yup, the M1A1 is the semi-auto version of the M14.
The Mini-14 is good for both .223 Rem and 5.56x45... I did note a bit more recoil and report with the 5.56.
Gun fags rejoice!
p.s. -the one time my better half came out, she was good for head shots to 100 yds with the mini & a red dot.!
