So as long as they repent he'll save those that tortured, raped, and murdered little kids and even babies.
You and I don't believe alike. You see I know that God is not all that merciful. In fact he is vengeful. He killed all the first born children of the Egyptians just because the Pharaoh would not let the jews go, and the chosen and many Christians see absolutely nothing wrong with the murder of innocents for that end. How merciful is a God that murders children and babies that could have had absolutely no impact on the decision to hold the jews in bondage? That same God told his people to genocide others more than once in the Bible's record. Not all that merciful at all in my view.
We have very limited, partial and flawed views of reality. God is all good and created us and the Egyptians freely out of love. The Egyptians for generations worshipped satanic idols instead of God and enslaved His chosen people for centuries before His mercy gave way to his justice. Physical death is infinitely outweighed by eternal death, and separation from God, in hell. As evil as it is to harm his little ones physically can you see how much worse even it is to lead them astray from Him - that was the millstone penalty! God the creator of life wants eternal joy and happiness for all his children but for societies that mislead their people and lead them away from him, eventually he says ENOUGH.
It takes a lot of mental gymnastics to justify the killing of innocent children, but those that are conditioned to believe the God of the chosen is their God well they can make the leap.
They will read of the genocide of other peoples sometimes even their own and see that as good.
