When God created man in his image, satan was furious.. and even more so when God gave man the ability to control his own destiny.. satan and all of his demons came together to devise a plan to keep man from the knowledge of that ability, that power. One demon suggested that they bury it 500 feet deep at the top of the tallest mountain. Another suggested they bury it 1000 feet deep at the deepest part of the ocean. Satan, being the greatest deceiver of all time, spoke up. He said “ No, man is both intelligent and industrious. He will look long enough and hard enough to eventually find it in those places. But he is also easily fooled. I have a better idea. We will bury it deep inside of him and convince him that he is not worthy of the blessings that this God given power produces. Then he’ll never even think to look there.”

"Death and life are in the power of the tongue . . ." -Proverbs 18:21 (NKJV)
Life goes much better when we stop agreeing with bad expectations by what we say and make the conscious effort to agree with good possibilities. Our words really do have the power to steer the ship. If you constantly repeat bad things you expect, you are likely to bring those things about without even realizing it. If you curse yourself by constantly saying "dammit," you will unconsciously fulfill it by working against the good outcome you desire, and it will seem that the world is against you. If you agree with a doctor who says you are going to die from some illness, you probably will, if only out of surrender to his or her opinion (giving up your sovereignty by believing the doctor's word about your life is final). The rational will poo poo this as nothing more than useless "positive thinking," but it is a real effect that is not like the superstitions some people think control their lives from afar. Somehow our words seal our expectations in concrete, and it might be one aspect of being made in the image of God, whose words have creative power. This is not to say this makes us gods who can mold the world to our liking, but we can affect our own destinies by refusing to agree with whatever works to defeat us. It is why some people always win. They never agree with the forces working to take them down, and it gives them the strength to persevere until they get what they want. Think about it. The connection isn't all that hard to see when you really take the time to look for it.
