Which doesn't mean he never saw it, it means just the screaming alone was one of the most horrifying things he has experienced. I'm not saying he did see anything, but he does not definitively say that he didn't see anything.

Man honestly... from that sentence all I can interpret is that at best he heard screaming (like from an audio file sent to him, or from something he got on the internet) and that's it - he never saw it.
Like in other words, that would be "the screaming alone is the worst thing ever though I never saw anything". I think this is very clear, but that's just my take on it.
