That same season of the X-FIles also talked about zero point energy and other suppressed technology. IIRC a radio host brought Mulder and Scully to a hangar where there was a reverse engineered spacecraft running on clean energy. Then the military busted in and blew it up.

In the first X-Files movie, Dr. Kurtzvile is trying to help Mulder uncover the truth and the feds go accuse him of being a pedophile. Chris Carter knows some shit.
