Your speculation is as good as anyone's! I know zero about ships.

I think the simplest non-conspiracy explanation is that the vessel could be structurally compromised and they figure that is a safe location to analyze and work on it.

If military is involved then who knows. It could be placed there for safety (maybe there are weapons on it). They could be keeping it out of sight while they do operations.

The craziest and most fun explanation is they leave it there and do comms to us by sending certain ship names by at certain times.
