Is the trial over before sentencing? I truly don’t know the answer and would appreciate any clarification you might provide.

The trial stage of this criminal case is complete. The sentencing stage has begun. States have differing rules regarding what types of post-trial motions can be filed by the parties. But, yes, the trial is over and a mistrial cannot now be declared.
