“The Age of Entitlement”, by Christopher Caldwell ... some great insights about how the social upheavals of the 60s brought us to the precipice we’re at now.

Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance
Don't be put off by the silly title, the story is magnificent. EVERYONE who reads it becomes a cult fan who won't speak a word about it out of fear they will accidentally spoil it's magnificence.
There are too many deeply philosophical reasons to explain why so many people love this story.
It's not a long novel but it is one of the most important modern classics.

Don't let anyone ruin it for you. There are some major moments in the book that can be spoiled, so be warned.
