Anyone read Atlas Shrugged? It’s a fantastic book that very much mirrors what we see today with business and Washington. My husband is a Project Manager with a construction company and was asked today by another PM if he was having supply issues with concrete. He hasn’t so far but the other PM said the lead time was long and the supplier said it is supply chain issues. He says there is major supply chain issues everywhere! The sand comes from China so with Covid apparently it has disrupted the supply chain. In Atlas Shrugged Copper is a big one, the book is huge and I can’t go into the whole novel and do any sort of justice. My husband made the comment to the other guys “it’s like we are living the end of Atlas Shrugged”. None had read it but I know others have mentioned the book here before. So throughout the book when something bad happens or something unexplainable people will say “who is John Galt?”. Through most of the book John Galt is unknown but essentially the hero. I feel more and more that we truly are living Atlas Shrugged, just a movie version. The movement of John Galt is in essence to destroy the corrupt system. We have our unknown “hero” pulling the strings. So I say “who is Q”

great post, and it's been a long time since I read AS, but I enjoyed it, and your summary sounds correct from what I remember.
Also reminds me of GLP and their various John Galt threads over the years, like someone was planting the ideas in the various conspiracy forums.
And pretty sure President Trump is an Ayn Rand fan...
That is what I have heard too, that Trump is an Ayn Rand fan which again got me thinking about similarities.
My dad made me read Atlas Shrugged when I was 16. I have periodically re-read it over the years. Best thing he ever did for me . It changed my way of thinking forever. Damn my dad was one smart dude!
Watched the movie. Great insight into what living in a socialist world would be like. No wonder John Galt buggered off and formed his own society.
The movie was only the first part and they never continued but I thought the movie was ok. At least I don’t remember them finishing the story. It’s been a long time since I watched it.
They sorta finished the movie of it, It's 3 movies, and last i saw of it you could watch all 3 for free. But even with 3 movies it doesn't compare with the book. I read it about 10 or 15 years ago I couldn't put it down, but it does drag on in too many places.
Yes I think you are correct. Been a while since I watched it. I'll check it out as there may have been a mini series as well. Still pretty easy to work out the plot though.
Oh I’ll have to look into that, I would be interested in watching a mini series!
I have posted about this before but not your take. Cool! Great post! I agree. I think the lights should be cut off, worldwide, for 3 months. Viola! Instant hard working and industrious population! That, or remove all the warning labels...lol...
I knew I had read someone else post about Atlas Shrugged, just couldn’t remember what it had been about.
For the last 3 years, I've felt we were dropped in to it!
We are living in EVERY movie. The matrix, v for vendetta, WWE, Trump is Batman and somehow Superman at the same time. You can go on and on. Archetypes are converging around the major Archetype, GEOTUS. Movies try to achieve this because it is more interesting to the viewer and the stories that resonate with humanity. The narrative and objective world are converging. Reality has become like a movie. Enjoy the show!

That Q post is chillingly applicable to this thread!
COMMS GOOD.
Nice try.
Q
I've always thought you were Q, because I'm Spartacus.
Are you sure? Didn’t Cory Booker try to claim it not too long ago.
lol
Hmm where will Wyatt's Torch be I wonder...
I have the book and never read it. My (apparently) communist brother in law saw it in my possession and was appalled I was about to read it. He said the book was too pro capitalism, whatever that means. Makes me want to read it now more so. I don’t think his opinion matters. He lives in Seattle where CHOP was located, it was literally in his backyard and he thought it was so quaint and beautiful, the summer of love. Sorry you hate Ayn Rand so much. I originally had wanted to read it because there’s not a lot of female sci-fi writers. And more points she’s pro capitalist.
I enjoy a critic that goes against the norm. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. I don’t like long winded, flowery novels myself either. Sparks notes it is!
Also, the irony of how I had a longer reply about the importance or editing and omitting when writing, and I just deleted it to make a more concise response!
Ok that made me laugh! I can definitely see your point and I wouldn’t down vote just because I don’t agree with you. I started listening to the audio book last week and she is almost sanctimonious but the first time I read it I didn’t know much about her. However in reading some of her other works, while I don’t agree with her anti-Christian tones she definitely makes people think. I still very much enjoyed the book but I do agree long. I felt when she finally did meet John Galt there was definitely much more than needed, I would still recommend reading it to others who haven’t.
Didn't know that about her but I agree, the damn book was way too long. Galt's speech is worth reading again.
Thank you for the meaningless psychobabble. We are all now dumber for having read your comment. Ayn Rand's philosophy is clearly beyond your ability to grasp...
I have a different opinion, but enjoyed reading your take on it!
LOL - perhaps it is hard for you to accept that when you state your opinion, you risk that others may evaluate your reasoning and judge it to be poor.
