That was one of the theories. I actually looked into this recently because numerous times over a period of a few months last year I kept hearing a loud boom off in the distance, usually late at night like 3-4am. Sounded kind of like a single firework going off in the distance.
I just assumed it was a sign of the end times and went back to whatever it is I do at 3-4am.
I've heard the same thing! Sometimes sirens follow, but nothing ever shows up in the news. And when it happens, it's often twice, about five to ten minutes apart.
