I used a jewelers loupe to zoom in on a facemask. Does anyone know what these black circles are?

Yes, when you breathe out the moisture sticks to the inside random-fiber layer where the air passes out through the square holes in the outer layer. The droplets spread out and then bacteria and mold spores breed in the circles of moisture. It's probably time to swap that mask for a fresh one.
This mask was brand new, never worn.
