Neuralink's old design had the device connected externally meaning you could remove it at any time. Sadly they changed it to an internal device.
Someone somewhere is probably going to make one of these things sooner or later just like every other piece of technology they use to control people so I think the best bet is to make one first that has the least ability to be used for evil purposes, such as a removable device with proper security made by white hats.
The biggest problem with technology is that it continues to replace human jobs. One easy example would be how Walmart typically has 1 or 2 human registers open, rarely ever any more than I've seen in years. They can employee 1 person to watch over 10 or 20 self checkouts which in that instance could cost potentially 19 jobs, just to be used as an example.
Here in Tampa they've been testing self driving buses so I guess they're wanting to eventually get rid of bus drivers being human. Amazon has been testing robots for delivery to replace delivery drivers. These are small things but in the bigger picture they will add up to countless jobs lost every year.
Some people would be fine sitting at home collecting the universal basic income but there will be plenty of people preferring to earn money and more of it but will have far fewer options for jobs.
I know this isn't something happening over night but little by little, year after year, they're reducing the need for humans in the work force. The human population continues to increase so eventually there will come a time when this becomes a real issue.
Things like the Neuralink is one of many things heading our way in the future. I guess ole Elon Musk had better step his game and make it a real thing regarding populating other planets lol. So many things today were total sci-fi in the 90s but reality today.
Not to sound like a nerd but there are some video games that cover this stuff where robots have taken over the middle working class jobs and they’re all furious at the robots. Kinda freaky to think about that actually happening..
Walmart is already testing a pilot program for self driving shopping carts. They will self drive back to the store where the carts go. They will also help shop with you by taking you to the location of an item you want. Currently they're testing that through the mobile app but I don't know if they'll have any voice features or not with it.
They have self driving floor cleaners and self driving machines to wax the floor. They have self driving robots that check inventory. It's only a matter of time before they have robots stocking the shelves.
Most grocery stores/supermarkets still use cashiers though.
