Ehhhhhhhh that's a stretch. Most northerners I know like dumping on the south because it's funny; it's like dumping on someone that supports a different sports team. It's been going on for ages, too; probably since the civil war even.
It's like sports rivalries with teams from the same state/neighboring states.
