It is wise not to jump to conclusions, but different filters or lenses do not cause visual distortion to targeted subjects in a photo(that requires software) Jimmy Carter and Jill Biden are holding hands, therefore a wide angle lens would leave visual distortion between them. Get what I mean? A wide angle lens would not crop jill and joe biden selectively or vice versa. https://expertphotography.com/wide-angle-lens/
I spent a little extra time looking at the photo. The most obvious revealing detail to me is the separate lighting. Jill and joe have hot spots on their forheads from overhead studio lights. The carters were photographed in their home under normal lights and have no shine (this is lighting not make up). They did a good job getting similar directions and depth of light for the general untrained eye, but if you look closely the details decry the idea the two couples were photographed together.
And your key point remains, no lenses I know work the way they say these lenses work. It’s not a simple answer if it’s contrary to reality. It sounds simple to those who don’t know how photography works and that’s their go to lately. Good enough an excuse for how intelligent they think their audience is.
Thank you! Also I was trying to look wide-angle family-photos or group-photos, to see how it distorts a group when all standing at the same depth. I could not find any though, because wide angle shots are intended for scenery or architecture, not while shooting people. LMK if you find any examples or can explain this.

Do not be a "complicity theorist".
Ooo I like this term “complicity theorists”

If you remove the background of the image somewhere like here it is VERY revealing that photo trickery was used here
I made this in support of your point. https://greatawakening.win/p/12iNnUjQmJ/
Spouse pede mentioned it’s not an Easter rain of truth must be suspended for it to with. The easier answer is photoshop.
