Really they are underground for 17 years then emerge and survive for 17 years lol.

Yeah, that's got to be a mistake.

When I saw them 17 years ago, they were everywhere for the summer. Bug noise and bug sex everywhere.

Birds having a feeding frenzy and kids killing them did little to quell the numbers but they were gone later that year.

I'm pretty sure they only come up once every 17 years to reproduce and die.
